World number two Nelly Korda criticized the absence of a mixed-gender indoor virtual league, calling it “an unbelievable miss” following the introduction of a women’s tournament supported by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
The Women’s Tournament Golf League (WTGL) will be hosted at the same Florida venue as the men’s TGL, which is currently in its second season.
Top female golfers will participate in a season of team match play at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens; however, Korda pointed out that not integrating the men’s and women’s events was a lost opportunity.
“I have mixed feelings about it, and I’m surprised no other women have expressed their opinions,” she shared. “It’s a massive oversight that we’re not competing alongside the men. That would be the best way to enhance the sport, and it would be groundbreaking—potentially the first time men and women compete on the same level for equal prize money. But I do appreciate the chance we’re getting, so I have conflicting feelings.”
The indoor golf setup involves teams taking shots at a large simulator screen before transitioning to a short-game area featuring rotating holes and bunkers.
Mike McCarley, a former television executive who co-founded the TGL with McIlroy and Woods, mentioned that a mixed-gender event has been a topic of conversation. “It’s something that interests us, the LPGA, and many players we’ve spoken to,” he noted. “At the moment, we’re concentrating on expanding the TGL and creating a strong platform to highlight the players and their personalities.”
Korda, aged 27, has not yet decided whether to participate in the event, stating she is “still weighing the time commitment” needed for the tournament.
Confirmed participants include world number one Jeeno Thitikul, along with British golfers Charley Hull and Lottie Woad.
Last year’s TGL championship was won by Atlanta Drive, which defeated New York GC 4-3, and a total prize pot of £10.39 million was divided between the finalist teams. This season’s competition commenced on December 28, with the best-of-three final scheduled to begin on March 23. The start date and prize money for the women’s league have not yet been revealed, except that it will occur in the winter of 2026-27.
