Paul Lim will face Shane McGuirk in the men’s final of the 2024 WDF World Championship as the fairytale lives on for the fan favourite and living legend from Singapore.

Lim at the age of 70 continues to show why he is a darting delight and eased past Jason Brandon who has been one of the stories of the tournament. He had a late night epic against Neil Duff which he prevailed in but Lim was too solid despite having two prior late night finishes.

He was at Lakeside at nearly half past midnight last night seeing off Jarno Bottenberg to a near half empty hall but tonight it was a near packed house willing him on for every dart.

Lim started superbly. Dropping the opening leg of the match, he went on a tear from there winning six on the bounce to go 2-0 up at the first break.

He wouldn’t relent as he continued to not give Brandon a chance. He broke to begin set three with a 67 checkout and followed it up with a 17-dart hold and taking advantage of missed chances for Brandon who was under the cosh at 3-0.

It got worse as he missed chances to break in the fourth set and Lim responded and broke with a 15-darter. Very much the darting tale as old as time in you miss I hit and with Brandon back on 100, he took out 25 after missing 96 initially to seal a 4-0 lead.

A sumptuous 104 checkout began the fifth set as he went one away from the win. Brandon finally stopped the rot after 15 unanswered legs. But Lim got over the line.

He hit a 180 incredibly to leave double 20 and the fairytale was nearly realised but he fluffed his lines and had to wait as Brandon sent it to a decider where he had the darts. But Brandon missed 74 and Lim hit 133 prior to leave 80 and he sealed the win incredibly from there hitting 15, bull.

The first player to hit a nine-dart finish at the World Championship back in 1990 and in 2024 at the age of 70, he could become the oldest World Champion.
