Patrick Reed has announced his plans to return to the PGA Tour after fulfilling his LIV Golf contract, which concludes at the end of 2025. On Wednesday, Reed and the PGA Tour shared that he has applied for reinstatement as a Tour member for the 2027 season.

In 2026, Reed will play on the DP World Tour as an honorary lifetime member and will be eligible to participate in PGA Tour events as a non-member starting August 25, 2026, a year after his last LIV Golf appearance. This eligibility allows him to compete in the FedEx Cup Fall in 2026 through sponsor invitations or Monday qualifiers if he chooses.

Having secured nine titles on the PGA Tour, including the 2018 Masters, Reed will have past champion status when he returns in 2027.

He aims to enhance his status and improve his rankings within the PGA Tour through his performances on the DP World Tour, where he recently kicked off the season with a victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. The top 10 players in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai standings who lack PGA Tour status will gain membership for the following season.

On Wednesday, Reed explained his decision to return to the PGA Tour:

“After careful thought and consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer compete on the LIV Golf Tour. I am thrilled to announce my return to the PGA Tour as a past champion member for the 2027 season, and I’m eligible to start competing in PGA Tour events later this year. I will also continue to play as an Honorary Lifetime Member on the DP World Tour, which I am truly honored to do.

“I have a traditionalist mindset and was meant to play on the PGA Tour, where my journey began with my wife, Justine. I feel fortunate for the opportunities I have received and grateful for the life we’ve built. I’m moving forward in my career and look forward to competing on both the PGA and DP World Tours. I’m eager to get back out there and revisit some incredible places.”

Reed is the second player, following Brooks Koepka, to leave LIV Golf and return to the PGA Tour. However, he does not have the same expedited return path that Koepka received through the Returning Member Program. Koepka is making his PGA Tour return this week at the Farmers Insurance Open after being fast-tracked back, but Reed does not meet the same criteria as Koepka, given his status as a recent major champion.

The PGA Tour confirmed that Reed’s reinstatement for 2027 is permissible because he voluntarily resigned his Tour membership in 2022 before joining LIV Golf, ensuring he did not breach any Tour regulations. He will remain ineligible for the Player Equity Program until 2030 as part of the conditions surrounding his return, similar to Koepka’s situation.
