According to Omar Hisham Talaat, President of the Egyptian Golf Federation, Egypt has some of the finest golf courses in the world and is establishing itself as a leading international destination for the sport.

In an interview with FM Radio during the “Egypt Golf Series 2026,” Talaat highlighted the country’s exceptional facilities and favorable weather conditions, aimed at promoting Egypt’s potential to a global audience. His comments came as the series kicked off its inaugural event at the New Giza Golf Club, which is part of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Tour.

He noted that golf has rapidly gained popularity in Egypt, emphasizing that the federation’s approach encompasses not just athletic participation but also tourism, media exposure, and international relations.

“Golf has long been part of Egypt, with beautiful courses and great weather, but it received minimal recognition,” Talaat remarked. “In just a year, everything has transformed.”

The Egypt Golf Series 2026 features four consecutive tournaments with a total prize pool of $400,000 and points contributing to the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Talaat referred to the MENA Tour as the “engine room” for international golf in the region, affording players the opportunity to earn ranking points and progress to global tours.

“For the first time, Egypt isn’t just hosting the event; it’s also building a foundation for the future,” he added.

The opening event at the New Giza course, designed by Thomson, Perrett & Lobb, is set to take place from January 19 to 21. Slovenia’s Zan Luka Stirn currently leads with an impressive eight-under-par 64 in the first round, while Egyptian amateur Issa Abou El Ela remains the top local contender.

The tournament features a diverse international field, including Italy’s Aron Zemmer and Malaysia’s Galven Kendall Green, who are tied for second place.
