It is impossible to think about golf without thinking about Tiger Woods. That is how great a player he was during his prime days. The 48 YO made his first swing when he was just eighteen months old, and there has been no going back for him ever since. He won more than 30 junior tournaments before becoming a teenager. At age 15, Woods won his first out of three U.S. Junior Amateur titles. Following an exceptional junior, college, and amateur golf career, he turned professional in 1996 at the age of 20 and also bagged his first win on the PGA Tour at the Las Vegas Invitational the same year. So far, he has won 82 PGA Tour events, and 15 Major Champions. He was a hero for several golfing pros, from Justin Thomas to Scottie Scheffler. However, despite all the accolades, he failed to grab the attention of a 10 YO golfing prodigy.
Pretty much like Tiger Woods, Charley Hull too started golfing at the age of two. She currently has two LPGA Tour victories but is still regarded as the star of the league. She made it to the headlines back in 2013, and it continued as she became the youngest golfer to be a part of the Solheim Cup and also claimed her first European Tour trophy before turning eighteen. When she was a rather unknown face in the golf world, she was asked if she wanted to become the Tiger Woods of women’s golf. She very confidently replied, “I want to be my person really because people say you’re the new Tiger Woods. Yeah, whatever but I want to be myself.”
Well, this is not the first time Charley Hull has dismissed Tiger Woods. In 2022, Charley Hull took part in an interview with Golf Holidays Direct, where she faced a tough choice during the Quick Question segment. Interviewer Conor Pettit asked, “Tiger Woods or Laura Davies?” To everyone’s surprise, Hull didn’t pick Tiger Woods. Without hesitation, she chose one of the greatest female golfers of all time, Laura Davies, saying, “I’m gonna go with Laura, I love Laura.”
