Both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are coming off losses inside the ring.
AJ’s latest defeat came at the hands of Daniel Dubois, who beat him inside five rounds in September. The final knockout punch came after several earlier knockdowns in front of a record crowd at Wembley Stadium and has left Joshua with yet more questions to answer.
He had been expected to get a second shot at Dubois although reports now suggest that won’t happen next after his promoter Eddie Hearn claimed he might not be ready to fight in February due to a few injury niggles.
‘The Gypsy King’ meanwhile already has his own rematch with former undisputed champion Usyk locked in for December 21.
Speaking to iFL TV, Fury said taking the second fight was a no brainer and suggested it showed a lack of character on ‘AJ’s part not to go straight into the immediate rematch with Dubois.
I fancy him again as well, same result. If you get beat by somebody you rematch them, and if you don’t, it says a lot about your character if you don’t rematch them and they beat you. All the times I’ve had tough fights I’ve rematched them, but that’s just me.”
“I’ve heard on the grapevine that’s not happening. I’d be chomping on the bit to get straight back in there. But even if he loses again, four losses or five, it’s pretty similar isn’t it?”
Fury has had rematches with he likes of Deontay Wilder, Derek Chisora and John McDermott but none were after losses, while in December with Usyk he will be hoping to avenge his only defeat to become a unified WBC, WBA and WBO world champion.
