Amessage about LeBron James on X (Twiter) went viral on social networks in the United States. And that had almost nothing to do with the strictly sporting facet of ‘King’ James, a reef both for the millions of followers he has and for the also numerous ‘haters’ who do not miss an opportunity to criticize him when something, no matter how small, goes wrong.
In this case, it was a joke that went viral when a tweeter posted a message that read: “It has been discovered that LeBron James is sleeping with the mother of his new teammate”.
The statement of the sentence sounded strong, and more so in a country like the United States where sports stars are considered celebrities and what they do off the court, including their relationships or love slips, is closely scrutinized. And even more so in Los Angeles, home of Hollywood and the paparazzi.
However, the impact of the ‘news’ came to nought as soon as one realized that the pun made perfect sense because of the recent addition of LeBron’s son Bronny to the Lakers, who selected him with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. LeBron is indeed sleeping with his new teammate’s mother. Specifically with Savannah James, his wife and mother of Bronny.
An acceptable ‘incestuous’ relationship
This is the first time in NBA history, pun intended, that it is considered acceptable for a player to sleep with his teammate’s mother. In fact, the real issue over which rivers of ink would flow would be if they didn’t sleep together.
Savannah, 37, and LeBron, 39, have been high school sweethearts and were married on Sept. 14, 2013. They have three children together, Bronny, Bryce and Zhuri, and are a very happy family.
Savannah would have dreamed that things would be this wonderful when they started dating in the early 2000s, but I don’t think in her wildest dreams she would have ever thought that her husband and oldest son would one day be teammates in the NBA. It will be the first time in NBA history that a father-son duo will be on the court together. And when that time comes, sooner rather than later, there won’t be a prouder woman than Savannah James.
Savannah James’ reaction
In fact, it didn’t take long for her to react when she saw the aforementioned message on social media that had gone viral. Savannah was quick to post two emojis, one covering her mouth and the other laughing. She could not and would not hide that she was very amused by the comment about her husband and with whom she shared her nights.
We know a little bit more about the LeBron persona from the confessions that Savannah James keeps spilling out in dribs and drabs on her podcast Everybody’s Crazy. She recently revealed that there’s a seemingly harmless term she hates. During a conversation about mistresses and furtive relationships, Savannah revealed that she hates being called “wife” and would even tell LeBron James not to introduce her as his wife before they got married.
She hated LeBron calling her “wife.”
“When I tell you I hate, loathe, the term ‘wife’ with all my soul,” Savannah said. “… “Because don’t call me your wife if I ain’t. I ain’t. I had to politely tell my husband back in the day. He used to introduce me, ‘This is my wife, this is my wife.’ I had to take him aside and say, ‘Excuse me, don’t introduce me like that, please. I’m not your wife and I deserve that title when the time is right.’ I didn’t want him to start thinking it was okay to say that,'” she explained
And her role in LeBron’s personal and sports life has been key. He shares everything with her, especially the most important decisions.
James led the Paris Games Dream Team, getting involved from minute one with calls to each of the candidate players to convince them. But it wasn’t until Savannah gave him the OK that he committed 100 per cent. As ESPN’s Tim Bontemps revealed, “LeBron said that once he received his wife’s permission to forgo his summer vacation and play for Team USA, he enjoyed the experience to the fullest.”
